To Schedule Social Media Or Not To Schedule?

If you're running a small business then you'll know what wearing all the hats feels like. Hectic!

Finding the time to post on social media the the number one reason why people hire me to manage their social media.

Making the jump to hire a social media manager can be too much so the solution may be to schedule in social media posts. By batch scheduling you're able to effectively save time and also benefit from scheduling in posts at the time of say that will potentially get you the best reach.

For some time now there have been whispers that Instagram and Facebook don't like third party scheduling apps and don't give priority in the algorithm to posts that are scheduled.

So if these whispers are true, is it worth scheduling?

My personal thoughts are that it is worth scheduling in social media posts.

  • Saves time

  • Makes you accountable for ensuring it gets done

  • You can select the best times of day to post

  • Able to review your grid so that it's kept on brand

How To Schedule

There are many scheduling apps out there including Later, Planoly, Sprout Social, and more.

There is also the option of using your Facebook Business Suite.

I personally use Later to schedule in my social media and also Business Suite for clients.

I find the Later dashboard easy to use and I love the preview feature, the link to Unsplash for stock photos and ability to reschedule posts so easily.

Facebook Business Suite is also a great resource to schedule in posts with the added bonus of being able to schedule in stories (which is a paid feature for most other social media scheduling apps)

In summary, if there is any actual truth in Instagram and Facebook limiting reach for scheduled posts, I still personally think it's worth scheduling and I personally still see great reach for scheduled posts.
