When Is It Time to Redesign Your Wix Website?
If you've had your Wix website for a few years, there's a good chance it's changed along with your business.
A new service gets added here. A different photo gets squeezed in there. You change your pricing, rewrite your About page, add another menu item... and before you know it, the website you once loved doesn't quite feel like your business anymore.
Sometimes a few updates are all it needs.
Other times, you've reached the point where continuing to patch things up is making the website harder to use — for you and your visitors.
So how do you know when it's time for a Wix website redesign rather than another round of tweaks?
Wix Website Redesign: The Quick Answer
You probably don't need to redesign your Wix website just because it's a few years old.
I'd start thinking about a redesign when:
✓ Your business has changed significantly since the website was built
✓ The design feels dated or no longer reflects your brand
✓ Your website doesn't work particularly well on mobile
✓ Visitors struggle to understand what you do or where to go next
✓ You're getting website traffic but very few enquiries
✓ You've added so much over time that the site feels messy or disjointed
✓ SEO wasn't really considered when the website was originally built
✓ You're embarrassed to send potential clients to your website
That last one comes up more often than you might think.
If you're constantly saying, "Ignore the website, I really need to update it" when you send someone the link, that's usually a pretty good sign something needs to change.
But it doesn't automatically mean starting again.
1. Your Business Has Outgrown Your Website
This is probably one of the most common reasons I see for redesigning a Wix website.
Your website might have been completely right for your business three or four years ago.
But your business isn't the same anymore. It’s moved on.
Maybe you've:
✓ Changed your services
✓ Increased your prices
✓ Moved into a different market
✓ Started attracting a different type of client
✓ Added a team
✓ Changed your branding
✓ Become more established
The problem is that your website is still representing the old version of the business.
You might now be providing a fantastic, professional service while your website still looks like something you put together when the business was just getting started.
A redesign isn't always about making a website prettier.
Sometimes it's simply about making sure your online presence has caught up with the business you've actually built.
2. Your Wix Website Has Become a Bit of a Patchwork
One of the things I like about Wix is that it's easy for business owners to update themselves.
But that can also mean a website gradually gets a little... messy.
Over a few years, you might add a page, change a font, introduce a new button style, squeeze in another service, add a banner and create a new section because you saw something you liked somewhere else.
Individually, none of those things is a problem.
Together, they can start to make the website feel inconsistent.
You may end up with:
✓ Different spacing from page to page
✓ Too many font styles
✓ Inconsistent buttons
✓ Repeated information
✓ An increasingly complicated menu
✓ Pages that don't really have a purpose anymore
✓ Calls to action going in different directions
At that point, a Wix website redesign gives you an opportunity to look at the whole site again rather than continuing to fix individual pieces.
3. Your Website Doesn't Make It Obvious What You Do
This is a much bigger problem than whether your website looks modern.
Someone arriving on your homepage should be able to work out fairly quickly:
✓ What do you do?
✓ Who is it for?
✓ Why should they trust you?
✓ What should they do next?
If your homepage is beautiful but people have to scroll through half of it before understanding what you're actually offering, the design isn't doing its job.
The same applies if your services are buried in paragraphs of copy or your navigation has become so complicated that visitors don't know where to start.
A Wix redesign is a chance to rethink the structure and customer journey, not just the colours and fonts.
4. Your Wix Website Isn't Bringing in Enquiries
This one needs a little caution.
If your website isn't generating leads, that doesn't automatically mean you need a redesign.
First, I'd want to know whether people are actually visiting it.
A website getting 50 relevant visitors a month has a very different problem from one getting 5,000 visitors and no enquiries.
If traffic is the problem, you may need to work on SEO, local visibility or other ways of getting the right people to the website.
But if people are finding you and aren't taking the next step, I'd start looking at:
✓ Is your offer clear?
✓ Are there obvious calls to action?
✓ Is it easy to enquire?
✓ Do you show genuine reviews?
✓ Is there enough information about you and your business?
✓ Does the website answer the questions people have before enquiring?
✓ Does it demonstrate your experience?
✓ Does it feel trustworthy?
Sometimes the problem isn't getting someone to your website.
It's what happens after they arrive.
5. Your Mobile Website Needs Some Love
Don't assume that because the desktop version looks good, the mobile version does too.
This is something I pay particular attention to when designing Wix websites.
Text that works beautifully on a large screen can suddenly become overwhelming on mobile. Images can crop strangely. Buttons can end up in awkward places. Sections that looked spacious on desktop can feel endless when they're stacked vertically.
And sometimes things have simply been added over the years without anyone going back and checking what happened on mobile.
If you're considering a redesign, don't just look at your website on your laptop.
Pick up your phone and actually use it.
Try navigating between pages, reading the content, clicking buttons and filling out your enquiry form.
You may be surprised by what you find.
6. Your Website Wasn't Built With SEO in Mind
A good-looking Wix website isn't automatically a well-optimised Wix website.
If SEO wasn't considered when your site was originally created, you might have:
✓ Important services without their own pages
✓ Pages trying to target too many different topics
✓ Weak SEO page titles and descriptions
✓ Poor heading structure
✓ Very little internal linking
✓ Thin service content
✓ Old or unnecessary URLs
✓ No real content strategy
A redesign can be a great opportunity to improve the website structure and SEO foundations at the same time.
But there's something important to consider here.
You don't want to accidentally lose SEO progress you already have.
Before changing URLs, deleting pages or restructuring a website, I always want to know whether any of those existing pages are already appearing in Google or bringing visitors to the site.
If URLs do need to change, appropriate redirects can be put in place.
A redesign should improve what's there — not accidentally throw away the bits that are already working.
7. You're Embarrassed to Send People to Your Website
This isn't particularly technical, but I think it matters.
Your website is often where someone goes after they've:
✓ Seen you on Instagram
✓ Been referred by a client
✓ Found your Google Business Profile
✓ Met you at an event
✓ Heard about you through someone else
They may already be interested in working with you.
Then they visit your website to check you out.
If you're reluctant to send people there because it doesn't represent the quality of your business anymore, that's worth paying attention to.
Your website doesn't need to win design awards.
But you should feel confident that it represents your business properly.
8. Updating Your Wix Website Has Become Harder Than It Should Be
Your website should be something you can work with.
If every little update has become an ordeal because the structure is confusing, the design relies on awkward workarounds or you're worried that changing one thing will mess up something else, it may be time to clean things up.
One of the reasons I like designing websites in Wix is because I want my clients to be able to manage them afterwards.
You shouldn't need to call a website designer every time you want to change a sentence or replace an image.
A good Wix redesign should leave you with a website that's easier to manage, not more complicated.
Do You Actually Need a Full Wix Website Redesign?
Not necessarily.
Sometimes I think the website industry is a little too quick to recommend starting again.
Your existing Wix website might simply need:
✓ A homepage refresh
✓ Better mobile layouts
✓ Updated branding
✓ New photography
✓ Stronger calls to action
✓ Improved service pages
✓ SEO improvements
✓ Navigation changes
✓ A general tidy-up
If the basic structure is good and the website is already performing reasonably well, it makes sense to keep what's working.
A full redesign makes more sense when the problems are spread across the website or your business has changed enough that fixing individual sections is becoming a never-ending job.
Should You Stay With Wix When You Redesign?
Absolutely.
If you're already using Wix, a redesign doesn't mean you need to start again on another platform.
In many cases, Wix isn't the problem at all.
The website has simply evolved over time, your business has changed, or the design and structure no longer reflect where you're at now.
A Wix redesign gives you the opportunity to keep the platform you're familiar with while improving the design, content, user experience, mobile layout and SEO foundations.
Sometimes your business has simply outgrown your current website — not Wix itself.
Before You Redesign Your Wix Website
Don't delete everything and start again immediately.
First, take a proper look at what you've already got.
✓ Which pages currently receive traffic?
✓ Which pages appear in Google?
✓ Where do your enquiries currently come from?
✓ Which content is still useful?
✓ Which URLs should be retained?
✓ What do clients regularly ask before working with you?
✓ What functionality do you actually use?
✓ What does the new website need to do that the old one doesn't?
This is where a redesign becomes much more than choosing new fonts and moving sections around.
You're taking what you've learnt from the existing website and using it to create something better.
Frequently Asked Questions About Wix Website Redesigns
Can I redesign my Wix website without starting again?
Yes. Depending on your existing website, you may be able to keep the site and improve the design, content, structure and mobile layouts rather than rebuilding everything from scratch.
Will redesigning my Wix website affect my SEO?
It can if important pages, URLs or content are changed without considering their existing search performance. Before redesigning, it's worth checking which pages already receive traffic and retaining valuable URLs where possible. If URLs do change, appropriate redirects should be put in place.
How often should I redesign my Wix website?
There isn't a set timeframe. I'd base the decision on whether the website still represents your business, works well for visitors and supports your current goals rather than redesigning simply because it has reached a certain age.
Should I redesign my Wix website or just update it?
If the overall structure still works, targeted updates may be enough. If the website has become inconsistent, difficult to navigate, no longer reflects your business or has broader problems across multiple pages, a redesign may make more sense.
Can a Wix website redesign help with SEO?
It can create an opportunity to improve your website structure, service pages, headings, internal linking, mobile experience and other SEO foundations. It doesn't guarantee higher rankings, though. SEO also depends on the quality and relevance of your content, competition and the authority your website develops over time.
Do I need to leave Wix to get a more professional website?
No. A professionally designed Wix website can look and function very differently from a basic DIY website. If Wix provides the functionality your business needs, there's no reason a redesign can't stay on Wix.
Can you redesign an existing Wix website?
